Q. Do you sponsor or are there any on-line lessons for Microsoft Excel?

A. There are some online courses for Excel; however, I don't have a list of them. Here are a few suggestions:
  1. Go to the Microsoft site for Office and choose Excel.
    http://office.microsoft.com/welcome/excel.asp.
    That's a great place to start for more information on Excel.

  2. Microsoft's official online training vendor with courses on Excel is at http://www.headlight.com/browse_channels/0,1036,ms-544,00.html Not only can you purchase a single lesson on Excel for less than $30, but you can get an "all you can eat" one-year bundle on Office 2000 for under $200.

  3. Based on a quick search of AltaVista, using +excel +tutorial I found the following FREE beginning tutorials. If you want more advanced topics, repeat the search with the specific topic you need.

Q. How can I advertise my website on newsgroups without being accused of spam?

A. Good thinking! The last thing you want a reputation for is spamming a newsgroup. There's no faster way to get banned.

One of the most effective ways you can advertise your site, in newsgroups and in every contact you make, is to use a signature file on your email. Try to keep it to 60 characters wide and 6 lines long. But within that area you can say a lot. Include your company tagline, promote a new book, article, or product. Q. Our attendees download a copy of the speakers' presentations prior to coming to the conference. Any thoughts on a way to annotate right along with viewing the presentation on your own laptop?

A. I think the easiest way to do this is to open the slide show (assuming it's PowerPoint). With the slide showing at the top of the window, open the speaker notes window below. Participants can type their own notes below the slide, as the speaker is going through the presentation.

As an alternative, again in PowerPoint, they can click on the slide show to start it. Throughout the slide show, with a right click they can choose Meeting Minder. This brings up a note-taking window with both a tab for notes and a tab for action items. They can click through the slides and continue to take the notes as they progress through the presentation.
